New data for the investigational recombinant meningococcal group B vaccine developed by Novartis Vaccines, support its promise as the first potentially broad coverage vaccine capable of protecting infants against the meningococcal B strain. Prevention of meningococcal B infections remains a high medical need to protect infants and children worldwide from infection of this often deadly disease.

Novartis Menveo® vaccine shows superior immune response against four types of meningitis disease in pivotal phase III trial

New Phase III data for Menveo® (MenACWY-CRM) show that the vaccine produced a greater immune response against meningococcal serogroups A, C, W-135 and Y in adolescents 11-18 years of age compared to Menactra®. Infection with any of these four vaccine-preventable serogroups can lead to bacterial meningitis, an infection of the membrane around the brain and spinal cord, or sepsis, a serious infection of the blood stream.

New data show Menveo(TM) to be the first quadrivalent meningococcal vaccine to provide immunogenicity in infants

Menveo(TM) (MenACWY-CRM), a vaccine in development by Novartis, may protect infants using a schedule beginning at two months of age against four of the most common causes of meningococcal disease. Menveo is the only meningococcal vaccine shown to generate protection against a broad range of serogroups in infants, potentially filling a large unmet medical need.

New clinical data for the Novartis development vaccine Menveo(TM) [2] (MenACWY-CRM) show an excellent and broad immune response in infants as young as six months of age against four common serogroups (or types) of meningococcal meningitis, a potentially fatal bacterial disease involving inflammation of membranes around the brain and spinal cord.

Novartis MF59™-adjuvanted influenza vaccine (Fluad®) significantly reduces hospitalization in elderly

Vaccinating elderly subjects with an MF59™-adjuvanted seasonal influenza vaccine (Fluad® from Novartis) resulted in a significant reduction in hospitalization for major conditions such as pneumonia, acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and cerebrovascular accident (CVA) during the influenza season. Data published in this week’s international journal Vaccine illustrate the positive outcomes provided by an adjuvanted seasonal influenza vaccine.

Novartis breaks ground on state-of-the-art influenza vaccine manufacturing facility in Holly Springs, North Carolina

Novartis broke ground today on construction of the first cell culture-derived influenza vaccines manufacturing plant in the United States. Once completed, the facility is expected to have an annual production capacity of up to 50 million doses of seasonal trivalent flu vaccine.

Novartis receives US government contract to further develop a novel antigen technology that could extend vaccine supplies in a pandemic outbreak

Novartis announced that it has received a contract from the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) of approximately USD 55 million. The contract supports the company’s efforts to bring the antigen-sparing capabilities of the MF59 adjuvant to the United States. An adjuvant is a substance added to a vaccine to enhance the body’s immune response to the vaccine’s active constituent, called the antigen.
